Something stuck? Here's what helps.
Most questions can be solved yourself in two minutes. If not, just write to me — there's no ticket system behind Unforget, there's a person.

No alert arrives
In almost every case it comes down to one of these five points. Work through them in order:
- Calendar access granted? Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars and make sure Unforget is enabled there. Without that permission the app can't see any events.
- Is Unforget paused? Click the menu bar icon. If it says Resume reminders, the pause is still active.
- Are quiet hours in effect? Under Settings → General you can see the configured window. Inside it, things stay deliberately silent.
- Is the calendar deselected? Under Settings → Calendars individual calendars can be switched off. Check whether the calendar in question is ticked.
- Is a keyword blocking it? Also under Settings → Calendars: events whose title contains a stored keyword (“focus time”, say) deliberately don't trigger an alert.
All-day events and invitations you have declined also stay silent as a rule — that's by design.
Quick test of whether the app itself works: menu bar icon → Show test alert. If the full-screen alert appears, the app is fine and it's one of the settings above.
How many alerts do I get by default?
Exactly one: one minute before the event takes the whole screen. If you didn't react to it, Unforget follows up once shortly after the start — different status, different wording, no blame.
The quiet heads-ups at 5 and 15 minutes are off out of the box. Each of them is its own switch under Settings → Alert timing, and the setup assistant asks about them once. If you'd rather have more runway, switch them on; if one alert is enough, leave everything as it is.
The follow-up can be switched off separately in the same place.
The alert doesn't appear on all monitors
Unforget creates a separate window for every detected display. If one monitor stays empty:
- Disconnect the display briefly and plug it back in — the app then rebuilds its windows.
- Check whether an app is running in full-screen mode on that display in a way that covers everything (some games and video players force this).
- If it still doesn't work: quit Unforget from the menu and start it again. All displays are registered afresh afterwards.
The alert did (not) arrive during a presentation
The presentation guard detects running video calls and active conferencing apps. In that case Unforget deliberately shows only a small banner instead of the takeover and tries again a few minutes later.
Want the full-screen alert always, even in a call? Switch the guard off under Settings → General. Conversely: if an alert did catch you during a screen share, the share wasn't detectable for the app — in that case please write and tell me which app you were using.
The join button is missing
Unforget looks for the video link in three places in the event: the location, the URL property and the notes. Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Whereby and Jitsi are recognised, among others.
So no button means: the event contains no link the app could match. The most common cause is invitations where the link only exists as an image or inside an attachment. If a provider you use is missing, send me an example — new providers are quick to add.
Changing the language
Unforget speaks German, English and Spanish. On first launch the app adopts your system language; if it isn't among them, English is used. You can switch at any time under Settings → General → Language — the change takes effect immediately, including in windows that are already open. The welcome window has its own language menu, in case the system language was guessed wrong.
Launching automatically at login
Under Settings → General there's a Launch at login switch. Unforget asks about it once on first launch — if you said “no” back then, you can catch up here at any time. A reminder app you have to start yourself would be a poor reminder app, after all.
Asking Unforget for some quiet
Three ways, depending on how long:
- For this one event
- Menu bar → Mute next event. Or press and hold the “Stop reminding me” button in the alert itself.
- For a few hours
- Menu bar → Pause → for an hour or until the next morning.
- Every day at the same time
- Settings → General → Quiet hours: set a start and end time, done.
Uninstalling Unforget
Drag the app to the trash — that's it. There are no background services, no system extensions and no hidden files. macOS removes the sandbox container with your settings along with it. Calendar access disappears from System Settings automatically.
Reporting a bug
The fastest route is through the app: menu bar → Send feedback…. App version, macOS version and language are already filled in there.

- macOS version and Mac model (Apple menu → About This Mac)
- Unforget version (Settings → About)
- If it's about an event: which calendar it comes from (iCloud, Google, Exchange …) and whether it recurs
- A screenshot if something looks wrong
Feature requests are explicitly welcome. Unforget grew out of exactly that kind of feedback.
